Born of noble parentage in France, Saint Rocco is venerated in the Roman Catholic Church as the protector against the plague and all contagious diseases. As a young child, St. Rocco showed great devotion to God and the Blessed mother. After his parents died at an early age, St. Rocco distributed his wealth among the poor and took a vow of poverty.
St. Rocco is greatly venerated in Southern Italy and Sicily. At the turn of the Century, millions of Southern Italian immigrants brought their devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Saints, including St. Rocco to the United States. Prayer to St. Rocco
St. Rocco, strengthen us through your intercession, help us to feel the healing touch of God in our physical and spiritual needs. Assist us to make good use of health, to bear sufferings with patience, and, after your example, to live in the practice of penance and charity, that we may one day enjoy the happiness which you have attained by your virtues.
Pray for us, St. Rocco, our protector, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Amen.
